SUCCULENTS- easy, adorable, plants with personality, perfect for those notoriously bad at plant parenting.
Succulents are our favorite house plants, especially for the water-starved desert we live in. The beauty of succulents is they aren't greedy plants, they require very little water and healthy dose of sunlight, which perfectly suites the New Mexico climate. Oh, and did we mention they're cute?
There are so many different types of succulents, each with their own personality. Fuzzy, pokey, smooth, sharp, big, small, short, tall; such a huge variety to choose from!
Succulents are perfect in the house because they take up as little or as much space as you like. Your favorite little succulent can sit proudly on your desk, taking up zero space whatsoever, or if you're an obsessive plant mom (like myself) all of your favorite succulents can be perfectly lined up across your entire windowsill. Yes. The problem is real.
Here are a few succulent care tips we like:
- Water every other week. Succulents are easy-going, but they are happiest when they aren't over-watered. Pick bath a day, my day is Saturday. Every other Saturday my succulents get their watering.
- Wash them in the bath. Crazy plant mom returns. Yes, I said the bath. I take my succulents out of their decorative pot and set them in the bath. Then, I use the shower head (on a very light setting) and sprinkle water over the succulents until they are soaked through, but not drowning. This makes for a much easier cleanup, the excess water just washes down the drain and doesn't' build up in the bottom of the plant.
- Use a spritzer. I like this one from Target. If it's been an extra hot day or you feel extra plant mom-ish, just give your succulents a nice spray of water to give them a little more life.
- Keep them in a window sill, they will be their happiest.
- Dead leaves? Pick em. It's normal!
- Enjoy them!
